I have had a conversation with a friend about her parents recently. My friend is a bright, passionate and spiritual person. She courageously quit her job and is prepared to follow her spiritual path. However, she is not very happy with her parents less than supportive attitude.
I fully understand her frustration - having grown up during a relatively affluent time, our experience and needs are naturally different from that of our parents, who have gone through much rougher time. Their priorities in life are thus very different - they want stable jobs, protective environments for themselves & their children… and they sometime pressurize their children to follow the “safe path” that they want.
Despite the difference and the apparent generation gap, it’s important for us to understand that our parents love us as much as they could, in the way that they know…having such an understanding would make our relationship with the parents much easier…love is there no matter what….
